While we focus on fishing, we also understand that fishing isn't everyone's thing. The good news is that Missoula has unlimited activity options off of the water. A trip to Missoula for a non-fishing partner or the entire family can be a highlight of the year!
Shopping and dining are pleasantly diverse in downtown Missoula. Boutique shops, unique restaurants, and favorite watering holes make up a diverse and vibrant city center. With downtown Missoula Montana sitting at the base of the Rattlesnake Wilderness and on the banks of the Clark Fork River, outdoor recreation is exceptionally easy to access.
Hiking, Whitewater rafting, Mountain Biking, River Tubing, and much more can all happen in a day in Missoula. Perfectly set in between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, Missoula has plenty of opportunity for anglers and non-anglers looking to plan their next vacation, either as a destination or a layover on the way to the next adventure.
For families visiting Missoula, a day of exciting Whitewater rafting on The Alberton Gorge or Blackfoot River will create lifelong memories.
Missoula is a rider's paradise. With extensive trail systems and vast expanses of bike friendly public land close to town, Missoula is a hidden gem for Mountain Bikers
For families that want less adrenaline than the Alberton Gorge provides, a float through the town section of The Clark Fork is a favorite way to spend a summer afternoon. Tube Rentals and Shuttles make this one a no-brainer for the whole family!
Breathtaking views and solitude can require a little leg work! Good thing Missoula has more miles of hiking trails than you can hike in a lifetime. After a long road trip or a flight into Missoula International Airport, a hike is a great way to get the blood pumping and jump-start your Montana vacation. The M Trail, Blue Mountain, The North Hills, Pattee Canyon, and The Rattlesnake are all minutes from Downtown Missoula. With everything from easy walks to difficult treks, there is a hike for any ability just out your door.
Because we spend our time on the water, we aren’t golfers. That being said, Missoula has seven courses in town. With a mix of public and private courses, just like guided trips, make sure you call early. We have lots of anglers who also set tee times for the “Off” fishing days. A Golf and Fishing trip to Missoula is a very popular combo!
University of Montana Golf Course
Missoula Montana loves their teams. The University of Montana has a loyal fan base that makes any athletic event an energetic spectacle. Taking in a Football game at Washington Grizzly Stadium should be on any football fan's bucket list. Often referred to as the loudest stadium in college sports, ‘Wa-Griz” is an experience we highly recommend. Spending a day on the water and then catching a Griz game under the lights is a great Missoula fall day.
Summer sports fans can watch the Missoula PaddleHeads play Pioneer League Baseball at Ogren Park on the banks of the Clark Fork River. Catching trout in the morning and foul balls in the evening, who doesn't love that?
Over the last few years, Missoula has become a live music destination. With fantastic venues attracting some incredible musicians, catching your favorite artist in Missoula is a real possibility. Taking both artists and fans fishing has become commonplace for us and we love it! Be sure to check out the summer lineups and catch a show while you are here. We promise you can't beat the views.
It would be hard for a beer enthusiast to find a better beer town than Missoula. IPA’s, Sours, Porters, and Pilsners, the list goes on. With over 10 breweries and counting, everyone can find their new favorite pint here in Missoula. Here's some links to a few of our favorites, but that doesn't mean you should limit your stops to only these!
Not only do we love having kids in the boat, we strongly believe in investing in the future generations of anglers. We also know that young kids aren't going to want and really shouldn’t fish for more than a half day at a time. The good news is that Missoula is loaded with “Kid Friendly” options that will have the little ones happy, worn out, and sleeping hard when the day is over.
Carousel for Missoula and Dragons Hallow - “Built to provide the community of Missoula a new option for good, old-fashioned fun, the Carousel continues to entertain the children (and the adults) in our area with rides on the beautifully crafted horses as well as with family-friendly events. Whether we’re helping children celebrate their special day or seeing families come together for a little playtime, we’re happy to be part of Missoula’s history.”
